Russian tourists will not be able to fly to the Dominican Republic and Cuba
The day before, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) announced the suspension of the sale of tours to a number of countries in North America. Among them are the Dominican Republic, Cuba, as well as Mexico and Venezuela. Starting from March, only export flights are planned from these countries.
As one of the reasons for the decision, the ban of most European countries on the flights of Russian aircraft over their territory due to the aggravated geopolitical situation was named. ATOR called this decision a ‘practically insurmountable obstacle’ to the intention to make flights across the Atlantic even to open countries.
Another problem is the large number of Russian tourists who now continue to be in both Europe and America.
According to the calculations of the ATOR analytical service, there may be more than 27 thousand people.
Experts believe that tour operators cannot cope with the load on their own - they will need help, in particular from the Ministry of Transport.
On Monday, February 28, a special meeting is scheduled at the Ministry of Transport. It will discuss the possibility of providing humanitarian corridors for the return of Russian tourists.
The day before, Federal Tourism Agency issued a statement in which it indicated that at the moment Russian tourists may encounter difficulties when returning home. They are advised to keep in touch with their tour operator or carrier and download the Overseas Assistant app.
