RUSSIAN SKIERS DISQUALIFIED FOR UNSPORTMANLIKE BEHAVIOR
RUSSIAN SKIERS DISQUALIFIED FOR UNSPORTMANLIKE BEHAVIOR
The past competition that took place within the framework of the World Cup in cross-country skiing could have ended with a bronze medal for the team from Russia, but the jury decided to disqualify the skiers. The reason for this was the unsportsmanlike behavior of one of the participants at the finish.
Alexander Bolshunov, who took part in the competition, pushed away his Finnish rival with a ski-stick when he was finishing, and after crossing the finish line, he faced a crowd of Finnish skiers.
The athlete apologized, but the jury decided to disqualify the team due to the behavior of its leader.
However, the Russian national team does not intend to give up and has already announced plans to challenge the decision of the jury and the desire to disqualify the Finnish national team. The fact is that it was the behavior of the Finnish skier that provoked Bolshunov's reaction: he cut off Russian athlete at the finish line.
As a result, the competition was won by the Norwegians, the second place was taken by the Finns, and the third by the Russian team, which initially finished fourth.
