RUSSIAN POPULATION DECREASED BY 510 THOUSAND PEOPLE AMID THE PANDEMIC
According to the preliminary statistics of Rosstat, the country's population has decreased by more than 500,000 people in 2030.  It is noted that this is the maximum drop in figures since 2005.

According to RBC, which has information from Rosstat, at the beginning of 2021, the population of the Russian Federation is estimated at 146 million 240 thousand people. For comparison, at the beginning of 2020, the number of residents was 146 million 750 thousand people - thus, there is a decrease of 510 thousand people.

Last time such a significant decrease in the population was recorded in 2005 - then the decline was 564.5 thousand people.

If we evaluate the mortality rate for the period from January to November 2020, then we will see that it increased by almost 14% compared to the previous year - 1,881 million people died in 2020, which is almost 230 thousand more than the previous figures. According to the coefficient, by November, 14 people per 1000 population were dying in the country.

Experts called the death rate "excessive", while 116 thousand people died from Covid - 19, according to official figures. However, we should also take into account the indirect mortality from the impact of the pandemic. The period January-October 2020 became a record for mortality in 10 years - in 2010, there were also many deaths due to the abnormal heat in the summer months.

In addition to the increase in mortality in Russia, the birth rate has decreased.

The figure decreased by 4.4% - in 2019 1.365 million babies were born, but in 2020 only 1.306 million. Experts also note the fact that against the background of border closings, migrants were unable to compensate for the natural decline in the population of the Russian Federation.
