Russian billionaires lost $45.484 billion in 2022
The 23 richest residents of Russia, whose names are included in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI) global ranking, have become almost $45.5 billion poorer since January 2022.  Their total fortune at the moment is about $328 billion.

Experts attribute this state of affairs to sanctions from the foreign states, under which many fell after the start of a military special operation launched by the authorities of the country on the territory of a neighboring state.  For many, the reasons for a decline in capitalization were the confiscation of real estate and financial resources located abroad.
Large losses were expected in 2022 by the co-owners of “Novatek”.  Leonid Mikhelson, although he remains the second in the list of Russian oligarchs with $26 billion, has lost $6.48 billion.
An even greater loss affected financial state of another co-owner of the company, Gennady Timchenko.  His wallet has emptied by almost $ 7 billion. Now the businessman, who also owns a large stake in “Sibur”, owns assets worth $ 15.5 billion.

Vladimir Lisin also became significantly poorer.  The main beneficiary of “NLMK” has recently parted with $4.27 billion. According to BBI compilers, his capital is estimated at $23.7 billion, which makes him the third person in the list of rich Russians.

The ten richest Russians included the owner of “Severstal” Alexei Mordashov ($23.5 billion) and the founder of the “USM” group of companies Alisher Usmanov ($19.6 billion), whose losses amounted to $5.33 billion and $1.63 billion, respectively.  Vagit Alekperov, who is the main beneficiary of “Lukoil”, is left with $18.7 billion, having lost $3.09 billion recently.

Viktor Vekselberg's budget fell by $2.43 billion.  The fortune of the owner of the “Renova” group is estimated at $16 billion. Suleiman Kerimov’s  family, which controls the “Pole” gold mining company, parted with $834 million. Now the senator has only $14.4 billion.
However, not all Russian businessmen have become impoverished.  For example, the former co-owner of “EuroChem” and the founder of “SUEK” Andrey Melnichenko managed to increase his fortune by $853 million.
At the same time, Vladimir Potanin continues to be the richest citizen of the Russian Federation.  Over the past 4 months, his financial condition has only increased by $645 million and now experts estimate it at $31.5 billion. Having bought a stake in the business from Oleg Tinkov, the entrepreneur became the owner of the “UCS” processing company, formerly a part of Global Payments Inc.
