RUSSIA WILL BAN THE IMPORT OF TOMATOES AND APPLES FROM AZERBAIJAN

The day before, it became known about the decision taken by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance to suspend the import of fruits and vegetables from Azerbaijan. The resolution will come into force on December 10 and will affect apples and tomatoes supplied to Russian stores.

It is known that such a decision was made due to the detection of pests in the products - we are talking about the tomato moth and the eastern tent caterpillar.

According to the experts, who checked the supplied vegetables and fruits, 17 violations were recorded in Azerbaijani fruits over the past 1.5 months.

It is also known that in October this year, a telephone conversation took place between representatives of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance and the Azerbaijani Food Safety Agency, in which the Russian side informed its colleagues about the discovery of pests in the fruits imported from Azerbaijan. This also applied to potatoes, pomegranates, cherries and plums.

Since January this year, Russian experts have identified over 70 similar cases. Despite repeated informing of the Food Security Agency of Azerbaijan, violations continued to be recorded, which resulted in such drastic measures.
