Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that charter flights to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh could be restored in the near future. He noted that Moscow was interested in this.
Lavrov told the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram about the intentions of the Russian side. The politician stressed out that the Russian authorities were interested in the resumption of flights to the resorts of Egypt, and therefore, in the near future, air traffic can be restored. Lavrov also added that the countries had good prospects for cooperation in the field of tourism.
The Foreign Minister noted that Egypt had become a favorite destination for tourists from Russia long time ago.
For Egypt, this cooperation is also extremely important, since tourism is a special component of budget revenues.
We should remind our readers that the charter flights from Russia to Egypt were terminated in the fall of 2015 after the explosion of a passenger plane. 224 people became victims of the disaster. Before the tragedy, Egypt, along with Turkey, was one of the most attractive resorts for Russian tourists.
