Record mortality has been recorded in Russia since the Great patriotic war
For a period from December 2020 to November 2021, over 2.4 million people died in the Russian Federation.  This figure is anti-record since 1945.

According to Vedomosti, the natural decline for the year, excluding migration, exceeded 990 thousand people.  Earlier, most deaths in the post-war period were recorded in 2003 - then 2.37 million people died.  The worst figures for population decline were recorded in 2000 - 958,532 people.
During the war years, the mortality rate was 30-50 people per 1000 population.
In other words, during the war, the mortality rate was 2-3 times higher than now.  According to government estimates, the death rate is estimated at 15.6 people per 1000 in 2021. However, according to the media outlet, by September the figure was 16.4 people by 1000 - since then, the indicators have only worsened.  If in September about 800 Russians died from covid every day, then in November there were more than 1200 of them.
As a result, it turns out that during three waves of coronavirus that have passed over the past year, 2.41 million Russians have died, which is the worst post-war figure.
Covid-19 is called the main cause of supermortality.  However, the figures for the overall mortality have become worse.  Some demographers believe that this is nevertheless related to the coronavirus, since deaths were falling until 2019.  Others believe that the reason lies in the overload of the medical system, which has made the protection against other diseases worse.

Other causes of excess mortality are the abnormal heat that covered the European part of the Russian Federation in the early summer of 2021 (it is assumed that 10 thousand people died due to diseases of the cardiovascular system).  The number of deaths from alcohol and drugs has increased (by 6% and 60%, respectively), mental disorders (4720 people) and the nervous system (21 thousand people).  In addition, Russians have become less likely to have children - these losses are estimated at 43 thousand people.
