Prices for red fish and caviar will be cut down in Russia
According to the deputy head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Vasily Sokolov, the amount of red fish caught up this season is 500 thousand tons, which is almost double amount of the previous year. This circumstance, according to the official, will provide an opportunity to reduce prices not only for the fish itself, but also for its caviar, while fully satisfying the needs of the domestic market.

This statement was made by Sokolov at the IV International Fisheries Forum, reports TASS.

The official recalled that a year ago, the amount of fish caught reached only 380 thousand tons, which aroused suspicions of a possible rise in the price of caviar or its complete absence on sale, but this year's fishing season gives optimistic forecasts.

Despite this, Sokolov noted separately that the production of black caviar, on the contrary, shows a decline. For the first time since 2016, there has been a decline in sturgeon-related production. The coronavirus pandemic has made its own adjustments here: export showed difficulties, and demand for premium products fell down on the domestic market.

Sokolov noted that at the moment, the main part of the fishing season has already passed, and Kamchatka, Sakhalin and Khabarovsk are rightfully considered the regions where the largest number of fish was caught.
