OBI chain has no plans to resume work in Russia in the nearest future
The leadership of a German company that manages a chain of stores for construction in Russia had to refute the statement of one of the top managers.  On March 29, 2022, speaking at the Moscow DIY forum, the head of the purchasing department Maxim Suravegin said that the network would resume work in the Russian Federation immediately after the elimination of the technical failure.

In particular, he talked about retail outlets in the Russian capitals (Moscow and St. Petersburg), which will take several days to open.

We should remind our readers that on March 8, the parent company of the company, located in Germany (OBI GmbH & Co.), announced the termination of work in Russia.  The reason was the events on the territory of Ukraine, where the Russian authorities are conducting a military special operation.
It was reported in a company's statement that this caused serious disruptions in the organization's business activities.
The company is represented in 11 countries and has 670 outlets worldwide.  The company's stores have been operating in Russia since 2003.  During this time, 27 stores providing jobs for 4.9 thousand people (about 10% of the total number of OBI employees) were opened.

On March 17, it was reported that the shopping centers in Nizhny Novgorod (Fantastica and Mega) were also closed due to a “technical failure”.  At the same time, the local company that manages the mall noted that the stores would reopen their doors as soon as it becomes possible to do so.  However, in response to a request from the RBC about plans to re-launch OBI in Russia, such reports were called speculation and it was emphasized that emphasized that the doors of stores still remain closed.
It is curious that the French competitor of OBI, the Leroy Merlin chain, announced on March 11 that it had no plans to leave the Russian market.
The firm emphasized its readiness to increase supplies and expand the range due to the fact that other participants left the market.  The French authorities recommended that businesses not rush to leave the market due to the risks that were caused by the impact of the military actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine on the economic situation in the country and abroad.
