Nike announced withdrawal from Russian market
The well-known American clothing and footwear brand Nike has made a decision to leave Russia. The company did not prolong the contract with its largest franchisee, Inventive Retail Group. This information was confirmed by the head of the IRG.
In a letter sent to the employees of the franchise company, it was stated that the American brand will not be able to supply its goods to the territory of the Russian Federation in the foreseeable future.
Thus, as stocks of already imported products run out, IRG will be forced to close its stores as well.
PR director of IRG Lyudmila Semushina, in turn, noted the fact of the termination of supplies and the shortage of goods of the American brand. According to her, in such a situation, it becomes impossible to maintain the work of mono-brand stores, which leads to their closure.
The representative of the American brand, commenting on the current situation, noted that Nike has already made a decision not only not to renew existing partnerships, but also not to create the new ones. At the moment, business activity in Russia has been suspended, but despite this, employees continue to receive salaries, Vedomosti reports. Over the past spring, the number of Nike mono-brand stores in Russia has already halved, and some of them have been permanently closed.
