Lawyer Lyalin was deprived of his status due to obsession
Vadim Lyalin, who is under arrest on charges of extortion, has lost the status of a lawyer. The decision on this was made by the Moscow Bar Association in connection with the provisions of the professional code violated by Lyalin. In addition, the articles of the normative legal act regulating the activities of the Russian legal profession were violated as well.
According to TASS, Lyalin came under disciplinary proceedings due to several complaints received in June-September last year. Three complaints were submitted by citizens under arrest suspected of attempted murder, and the fourth was written by Lyalin's client, who approached him to represent them. To do this, he had to pay a lawyer ˆ 2.26 million.
According to the citizens who filed complaints, the lawyer urged them to incriminate themselves in every possible way and make a deal with the investigation.
Considering that those arrested did not admit their guilt, the “guarantees” provided by Lyalin to be released seemed very doubtful.
The the main persuasion tool in Lyalin's work was the demonstrated connections. The investigator arranged a separate office for meetings with the lawyer, whose services the applicants had previously refused. All this took place under the restrictions caused by the pandemic, in which the only way to meet with lawyers was not in common areas, but through interaction through dividing glasses.
The former lawyer himself called the decision of the qualification commission contradictory, since the applicants did not submit a written refusal from the services of a lawyer. Their arguments that Lyalin persuaded people to self-incriminate themselves were also not supported by a sufficient list of evidence.
At the moment, Lyalin is under arrest.
The Basmanny Court chose the appropriate measure of restraint for the former lawyer until June 15. Law enforcement agencies suspect him of extortion, which means that he has received funds for services that were not actually provided.
