INTERNATIONAL MEDIATION DAY IS CELEBRATED IN RUSSIA
International Mediation Day is traditionally celebrated on June 18. Mediators are engaged in conciliation procedures, working out mutually beneficial agreements for conflicting parties on controversial issues.

Mediation has existed in Russia for over 10 years, but it has recently begun to develop seriously. The All-Russian Trade Union of Mediators was created in Moscow in March 2021. The union set the goal of popularizing this type of activity and providing work for all mediators for itself.

Mediation has been known since ancient times - its methods were used in Babylon.

Mediation was used in ancient Greece as a way of resolving disputes, a similar procedure was provided for in Roman law, starting with Justinian. In the modern world, mediation began to develop already in the second half of the 20th century – Great Britain, the USA and Australia were the first here, and later the method began to spread throughout Europe and finally reached Russia.

Initially, mediation was used mainly in resolving family conflicts, but rather quickly the procedure became an important tool in complex commercial and public disputes.

Today mediation is successfully used in the USA, Europe, Australia and Israel. Asian countries are conservative in resolving disputes and are abandoning the procedure for now.

In Russia, mediation is regulated by the Federal Law ¹ 193-FZ ‘On an alternative procedures for resolving disputes with the participation of a mediator’, which is in force from January 1, 2011.

The editors of Rusbankrot congratulate mediators and the All-Russian Trade Union of Mediators on their professional holiday and wish them development in the profession, success and further fruitful work!
