The Fagradalsfjall volcano, which erupted this spring, may soon find a new owner. An Icelandic family, who owns a plot of land under the volcano, decided to sell the property.
Tourists' access to the unique natural site must be preserved.
The territory has been owned by a family for several generations, and currently the number of its owners is 19 people.
It is known that at least two potential buyers have already turned up with offers, reports Bloomberg. At the same time, one of the owners, speaking about the sale of the site, noted that it would be sold at a suitable price. In addition, it is possible to acquire both the entire land plot and its part.
According to the Prime Minister of Iceland, the authorities have no plans to purchase land together with the volcano. However, they are ready to allocate funds to make this place a tourist attraction.
The area put up for sale has every chance of becoming one of the most popular attractions due to its location: the volcano is located just an hour's drive from Iceland's capital Reykjavik.
According to forecasts of geologists, the eruption of Fagradalsfjall may last for several years more.
The volcano became widely known in the spring of this year, when a crack hundreds of meters long, from which lava up to 100 meters high gushed out, formed on its surface.
