GASOLINE CRISIS: WHY THE FAR EAST AND SIBERIA SUFFER LOSSES
The gasoline supply crisis that erupted in late January in the Far East continues to spread throughout the country, gradually capturing more and more regions. The authorities of the Khabarovsk Territory and the Amur Region, faced with a shortage of fuel, were forced to start supplies from the strategic reserve of the state.

Now the Irkutsk region, where the gasoline stations were also left without supplies, can keep the torch burning.

The reason for the crisis was the shutdown of the oil refinery owned by Eduard Khudainatov, who previously served as vice president of Rosneft. Messages on social media about an accident at the plant that led to a halt in gasoline production appeared on January 22. However, the authorities seem to have not noticed the information, as they are not taking any prompt measures to contain the crisis.

The result was the transition of the crisis to the stage of rumors and gossip, which fueled an already difficult situation with increased demand from vehicle owners.

A few days later, the situation at gasoline stations in Khabarovsk became visible to the naked eye - the fuel disappeared, and on January 27, the officials were forced to respond to the situation by making promises that the problem would be resolved within a few days. The government officials said the reason for the deficit was the scheduled modernization of the oil refinery.

The authorities continued to make statements that the gasoline problem had been resolved, and social media users continued to report that fuel was still in short supply and that the prices were rising. The amount of imported gasoline continued to be enough for a maximum of a day. The population began to turn to officials with demands to resolve the issue, but the results of the appeal to the regional department of the FAS about the inspection remained unrevealed. As a result, at a video conference held by Acting Governor Mikhail Degtyarev, the authorities accused the owners of gas stations of the fuel supplies disrupting, despite the fact the reason for the failure was problems at the refinery.

Experts note that the epicenter of the fuel crisis is gradually shifting from the Far East, where it was temporarily stopped by the infusion of gasoline from state reserves, to Siberia.

The sale of AI-95 gasoline in the largest network of gas stations in the Irkutsk region, the KraisNeft Group of Companies, has actually been stopped. In the company itself, the deficit is explained by the delay in supplies, despite the fact that the company owns two oil depots with the ability to store 23 thousand cubic meters of gasoline. Considering that supplies are made from several refineries, the situation looks depressing.
