DELOVAYA ROSSIYA IS STUDYING THE IDEA OF USING PRISONERS' LABOR

According to RIA Novosti, in case of business interest, up to 100 thousand people can be attracted to forced labor. A strategic survey among entrepreneurs is conducted in 85 regions – how ready they are to use the labor of prisoners. The results will appear in September 2022.

It is noted that cooperation with the Federal Penitentiary Service will attract additional labor to work. In addition, it is assumed that the initiative will reduce the likelihood of relapse.

The labor of prisoners can be used in construction, agriculture, industry, clothing production, in the forestry industry.

In addition, it is expected that prisoners will be able to keep their jobs even after serving their sentence, receiving a competitive salary. It is reported that the idea is supported by the Ministry of Justice – now about 180 thousand prisoners have the right to replace a prison term with work. The department believes that this will help in the socialization of prisoners, besides it will serve to correct them.

At the moment, about 20 thousand convicts working in 220 correctional centers have been involved in forced labor. They can see loved ones, wear ordinary clothes, go to the shops.
