DATA OF 55,000 BANK CARDS LEAKED ONTO THE INTERNET IN RUSSIA

The Central Bank of Russia and Visa warned about a leakage of the database, which contained information of 55 thousand bank customers. It is reported that the leaked data belongs to the users of the Joom service.

It is known that it is possible to find out the first six and last four digits of the card number from the database, as well as its validity period, the client's full name, address, phone number and e-mail, the name of the bank and the payment system. At the same time, the leakage occurred back in March, and the representatives of Joom do not deny this fact. However, they call the figure of "at least one thousand users”, as the information about the data leakage of 55 thousand bank cards should be checked first.

The attackers obtained information about the cards of more than 20 banks.

According to RBC, the banks stated that the data obtained by the fraudsters does not allow theft of funds from the accounts. It is also known that Raiffeisenbank blocked cards that got into the ill-fated base. Promsvyazbank, Absolut Bank, St. Petersburg and Qiwi have taken or are planning to take similar measures.

The experts point out that the users have nothing to be afraid of, since all the leaked data is technical. The only way the fraud is possible is a scheme by means of which the attackers call people on behalf of the banks and get the missing information, using the information that is already available.
