BRITISH JAIL HAS OPENED A PETTING ZOO FOR PRISONERS
Hindley Prison in the UK, which has had the status of one of the worst correctional institutions in the country, has opened a mini-zoo for its prisoners. The prison management believes this will help reduce stress levels.

There are approximately 600 inmates at Hindley Prison near Manchester, most of whom ended up there for drugs and violence. The British media note that almost 60% of convicts tested positive for drugs, while in other prisons this figure hovers around 5-20%. This means that convicts continue to take drugs in custody.

The prison authorities hope that the petting zoo will have a therapeutic effect on the convicts and help them get rid of the addictions.

The innovation was announced by the prison inspector Charlie Taylor. The zoo is a small area in the yard. It is not reported, what kind of animals live there. In addition, the prisoners have a greenhouse where they can grow useful crops.
