Republican Rand Paul, a senator from Kentucky, 12 blocked an attempt to provide Ukraine with a $40 billion “fast-track” financial aid on May. Earlier, the idea of   providing assistance was approved by the House of Representatives.  The politician said that he expresses sympathy for the people of Ukraine and wants the country to succeed.  But this should not happen at the cost of a default of US, the constitution of which the senator was sworn in.

As risk factors for the US economy, he cited data on inflation for March, which in the US was the highest over the past four decades.  A 49% increase in the cost of gasoline and a 32% increase in electricity costs also do not inspire optimism.
The politician proposed to amend the bill, which was previously submitted for consideration by the US Congress.
In his opinion, it is necessary to tighten control over the spending of funds allocated to Ukraine as financial aid.  The idea of   a Republican was rejected by Chuck Schumer, who heads the Democratic faction of the Senate.

We should recall that the President of the United States made a request to allocate financial assistance to support the political regime in Kyiv.  He asked congressmen to vote for the allocation of $33 billion to Ukraine. However, American lawmakers decided to increase the amount by another $7 billion.

The Russian military department continues to say that it is conducting a special operation exclusively with Ukrainian troops and strikes at the military infrastructure of a neighboring state without affecting civilians.  At the same time, the Russian authorities believe that American and European arms supplies to Ukraine serve to prolong the military conflict.
The current situation in the war zone in Ukraine was called a stalemate by the US intelligence agency.
Starting from February 24, 2022, Ukraine received $3.8 billion in total from the United States. If the decision on financial aid is made by senators, starting from 2020, the country will receive $60 billion. This amount exceeds the budget of the US State Department, Rand Paul said in an interview with the American press.
