AMAZON, IT, FOOD DELIVERY: WHO IS GETTING RICH BY THE PANDEMIC?
AMAZON, IT, FOOD DELIVERY: WHO IS GETTING RICH BY THE PANDEMIC?
As the coronavirus continues to confidently spread around the world, capturing new and new territories, business deals with its problems. It is interesting that in the current situation, some corporations even manage to succeed and increase profitability.
One of such companies is the “Amazon” trade network, which is the giant in the area of e-commerce. The fact is that the crisis, caused by the pandemic, provoked a change in the standards of consumers’ behavior.
Quarantined people fell upon “Amazon” with online orders in such a volume that even a corporation, prepared for the social explosions, found itself in a difficult situation.
As a result, a decision, promising the double or even triple benefits to the company, was made. First, Amazon made a statement about the desire to hire more than 100 thousand employees – thereby, the Internet giant solves the problem of potential shortages of workers. Second, the corporation took an unprecedented step of social significance - it employs people, who have lost their jobs due to a pandemic: employees of HoReCa, travel business and aviation.
People will be able to get a job both full time and part time, because the company has hourly rate.
Amazon emphasized that they would be glad to hire new employees until they returned to their previous employer.
However, the corporation did not stop there and raised wages. To the standard $ 15 per hour, the company plans to add another $ 2, when it comes to the United States. In the United Kingdom and EU countries, this will be £ 2 and ˆ 2, respectively. The experts have calculated that such a generous offer would cost about $ 350 million.
Meanwhile, no one is going to consider such measures as folly. The company may consider them as investment in the intangible asset of its brand. “Amazon’s” example has already been followed by many US home delivery organizations (such as “Albertsons”, “Kroger”, and “Raley's”).
What about Russia? What companies will win in the competition against the backdrop of panic, the fall of the ruble, a pandemic and the general isolation? Someone is trying to repeat the experience of Kirill Karavaev - the founder of a personal brand sells T-shirts with original inscriptions, catching the news trends on time.
Other companies, like “Yandex.Food”, “Yandex.Store”, the “Ready” brand from St. Petersburg or the “Delivery Club”, provided a non-contact way of delivering food to customers, as well as the personal protective equipment and medical masks to their employees.
We should not forget about the technological support of the IT field in the format of data centers, social networks, mobile operators and all those, who provide professional communication and everyday communication in an isolation situation.
The introduction of interim distance learning measures in Russian universities is already forcing management to introduce new technologies. Receptions for hosting and participating in webinars are mastered even by those citizens, who were previously very far from the Internet. Now these measures should be considered as investments in the brand - their monetization will begin after the end of the pandemic, when the formed needs and standards of behavior will remain in demand.
