THEY WANT TO RECOVER SHARES OF MAKFA IN FAVOR OF THE STATE
The Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit against Makfa JSC for the withdrawal of shares of the company to the income of the Russian Federation (case No. 2-3407/2024). In support of its demands, the prosecutor's office pointed out that the assets of Makfa and several other organizations belonging to former deputies Vadim Belousov and Mikhail Yurevich were acquired through corruption, since the deputy status does not allow them to engage in entrepreneurial activity.

Mikhail Yurevich has been in the status of a deputy since 2000, when he got to the State Duma. In 2010, he became the mayor of Chelyabinsk, and after that – the governor of the Chelyabinsk region. Vadim Belousov was a deputy of the State Duma from 2011 to 2023. He was stripped of his powers for systematic absenteeism.

Criminal cases were opened against both former deputies. Yurevich is accused of receiving bribes from the Minister of Health Vitaly Teslenko in the amount of 26 million rubles. He is also accused of inciting his first deputy Oleg Grachev to spread false information about the work of Chairman of the Chelyabinsk Regional Court Fedor Vyatkin. Currently, Yurevich is abroad, he has received Cypriot citizenship. By itself, the presence of foreign citizenship cannot become a basis for the alienation of shares. In April 2023, Russia passed a law allowing the confiscation of assets of unscrupulous foreign investors. It provides that an investor who illegally established control over a Russian strategic enterprise may be deprived of his assets received from the transaction in favor of the state through the court.

Vadim Belousov was put on the international wanted list in August 2022. The court found him guilty of receiving a particularly large bribe. In 2010-2014, the former deputy, in collusion with other persons, received about 25 billion rubles for patronizing a road construction holding company.

More than 30 companies, including several organizations from Cyprus and the Netherlands, and 13 individuals are defendants in the lawsuit of the Prosecutor General's Office. Makfa JSC is in the top 5 global pasta manufacturers. It is one of the backbone enterprises of the domestic agro-industrial complex.
