THE US ATHEISTS FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE TEXT OF THE ELECTION OATH
The American organization for the defense of atheists, “Freedom from Religion” Foundation, filed a lawsuit, thereby expressing disagreement with the mention of God in the text of the oath of an election participant in Alabama

The fact is that the registration form, which is filled out at the election station, contains a mention of God, which is controversial from the point of view of atheists.

After the words about the US citizenship and state residency, the filler must indicate that this information is correct and say "God help me."

Thus, according to the human rights organization, the citizens, who do not believe in God, are deprived of their right to participate in elections, since this formulation is not close to them. An atheist cannot take a religious oath, and its obligatory presence on the official letterhead deprives him of his constitutional rights.

The requirement to the court contains a request to provide the citizens, who do not believe in God, from the point of view of their worldview, with a form for registering to vote.

The official response of the Alabama authorities to the filed lawsuit has already been announced. The office of the state secretary of state noted that any changes to the text of the oath in the approved form would require legislative regulation, which means that it is simply impossible to change it by a court decision.
