THE FORMER HEAD OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHUVASHIA FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST VLADIMIR PUTIN

The day before, the Supreme Court filed a statement challenging the previously issued decree of the country's president, who removed the head of the Chuvash Republic, Mikhail Ignatiev, from his post.

The scandal with the resignation occurred due to an incident in Cheboksary, which happened at the beginning of the year - then Ignatiev gave the keys to fire trucks to the Ministry of Emergencies. The head of the region, being much taller than one of the Ministry of Emergencies, raised his hand high up when handing a bunch of keys - so that the fireman had to jump to get them. The video got into the network and news feeds, receiving a wide public outcry.

The regional administration explained the situation by the long-standing friendly relations between the representative of the Ministry of Emergencies and Ignatyev, and not at all an offensive joke. However, the Kremlin did not appreciate the humor and removed the official from his post, about which less than a week after the incident, the presidential decree was issued.

This document served as the basis for the appeal of the former leader of Chuvashia to the Supreme Court. A statement challenging the decree is registered on the court’s website; a meeting on this issue will be held on June 30.
