The Swedish furniture and home appliance producer IKEA will soon have to stand trial in the Pennsylvania state court of the United States. The reason for this was a trial that took place four years ago, in which the tragic cases of falling of the Malm line drawers on the small children were considered.
Due to the instability of the design, the furniture has caused a series of accidents with injuries and even deaths of small children, on whom the drawers of the famous brand fell. After that, the company decided to withdraw nearly 30 million drawers of unsuccessful lines from the USA. As a result of the lawsuit, the parents of three dead children received compensation in the total amount of $ 50 million.
A new lawsuit was initiated by the consumers who wanted to return Malm furniture, but it was not so easy to do: instead of money, IKEA offered a loan to purchase other brand products. In addition, the statement stated that the manufacturer did not actively withdraw its products.
Now other buyers can join the claims, which will make the lawsuit collective and increase everyone's chances of receiving the refunds. We should recall that in such cases, the applicants are entitled to demand monetary compensation for the goods, as well as compensation for moral damage caused to them.
