The Voronezh Railway Court will consider the first criminal case in Russia on football match fixing. The defendants include a former coach and six players.

We are talking about a football match in which the Seagull club from the Rostov region and the Chernomorets from the Krasnodar region took part. It took place in 2019 in the second division, as part of the championship of the ‘South’ zone.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted an investigation, as a result of which it became clear that the head coach of the Chornomorets club and one of the former leaders of the Seagull club entered into agreement on the eve of the competition. For the loss, Chernomorets was promised to receive at least 500 thousand rubles.

The first to doubt the fairness of the match was the Russian Football Union.

It is interesting that the court was moved to Voronezh from the Krasnodar Territory, since it was decided that the president of the Seagull club, businessman Andrei Chaika, could use his resources and put pressure on justice. The Voronezh region is not included in the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts, where Andrei Chaika has power, but at the same time it is the closest region.

Now the coach of Chernomorets and the six accused players are under recognizance not to leave. They could face a fine of up to 100 thousand rubles and a sentence of up
