THE COURT ALLOWED THE INITIATION OF A CRIMINAL CASE AGAINST MIKHAIL KHACHATURIAN

The day before, the Basmanny Court of Moscow considered an issue of initiating a criminal case against the late Mikhail Khachaturian. The man is accused of torture and sexual acts against his own daughters who killed him in the summer of 2018.

The high-profile case gained wide publicity and public outcry due to the fact that, according to the defense of the accused, the murdered had been using moral and physical violence against girls for several years, forcing them to commit sexual acts. According to the defense, this situation made the girls to take decisive action.

Earlier, the investigation had refused to initiate a criminal case against the deceased because of his death. At the same time, it was established in the ruling that Khachaturian used torture and sexual actions against his daughters. At that time (February 2020), the relatives of the deceased did not want a new criminal case.

However, later Mikhail's sisters insisted on initiating the new process to rehabilitate the deceased.

According to the defense lawyer Alexei Liptser, the relatives of the deceased intend to temporize, seeking a formal investigation, because the same circumstances will be considered by the court when considering a criminal case against the daughters. Despite this, the defense does not object the initiation of a criminal case against the murdered person.
