The citizens of Iraq filed a lawsuit against The Netherlands
52 citizens of Iraq filed a class action lawsuit, accusing the Ministry of Defense of The Netherlands of an air strike in 2015. The plaintiffs stated that they had received serious injuries, lost their families and suffered from the material damage.
The speech is about the attack of the Netherlands Air Force in the city of Hawija in 2015. It was assumed that the airstrike should destroy the bomb-making workshop, but as a result, more than 70 civilians became the victims. Among the plaintiffs there are relatives of the victims. It is reported that The Netherlands could have acted not so hard and avoid losses among the civilian population.
However, The Netherlands does not deny the number of victims. As a justification for what had happened, they stated that there was more material in the workshop with the bombs than they originally thought.
It is also worth noting that the general public learned about the attack only in 2019. The Parliament of The Netherlands stated that they did not know anything about what had happened - they were allegedly given false information about the absence of victims.
