On April 15, 2022, the Arbitration Court of Moscow is to consider the bankruptcy case of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (the organization is recognized as a foreign agent in Russia).  The case against RFE/RS (No. À40-42153/22) was initiated by the tax authorities on March 7, but the lawsuit had remained unaccepted for several weeks.  Judge Ruslan Abrekov accepted the claim only on March 24.

The tax authorities intend to recover 5.5 million rubles of debt from the organization.  At the same time, they ask the court to consider the case under a simplified procedure, referring to the absence of the debtor.  The court will assess these circumstances in mid-April, considering the question of the validity of the submitted lawsuit.
The organization suspended its work on the territory of the Russian Federation in early March.
As noted by TASS, the press service of the radio station reported that the journalists were put under pressure by the police, and the bankruptcy lawsuit by the Federal Tax Service was the last straw that forced the radio to curtail its presence in the country.

By decision of the Prosecutor General's Office, adopted on February 24, 2022, on March 4, Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications blocked the broadcast of RFE/RL.  The reason for the blocking was unreliable information about a special operation carried out by the Russian military on the territory of a neighboring state.  At the same time, the supervisory authority itself relied on Article 15.3 of the Law “On Information”, which refers to the spread of lies about veterans of the World War II.
RSE/RS LLC was recognized as a foreign agent back in 2020.
According to experts’ calculations, various fines were imposed on the radio station and its director in 2021 due to the lack of the necessary marking when distributing information.  Their total amount was 79.2 million rubles.  Subsequently, part of the penalties was sent for reconsideration.
