STUDENTS WANT TO SUE MSU FOR THE LACK OF DISCOUNTS FOR DISTANCE LEARNING

The students who study at the Moscow State University on the self-support basis are planning to go to file a claim demanding to change the amount of tuition fees. The future plaintiffs are sure that due to remote learning format, they receive less information, but at the same time pay the same price.

Information about the lawsuit appeared on the First University Telegram channel. It was noted that Moscow State University students intend to seek a reduction in tuition fees during the pandemic - the students agreed on this at an online conference. Lidia Ignatova and Florence Lenskaya will act as lawyers.

All the self-support students of Moscow State University who were sent on distance learning are invited to join the class action.

Students intend to get a discount from the university, at the moment they pay from 240 to 570 thousand rubles per year. Students believe that they are entitled to a discount for a number of reasons: Internet resources are poorly prepared for distance learning, there is no personal communication with teachers, there is no opportunity to visit libraries and conduct full-fledged laboratory, practical and research work.

The Moscow State University has already commented on the possible lawsuit, the information of the press service of the university is transmitted by RIA Novosti. It is reported that the university "took comprehensive measures to comply with the instructions and recommendations" and maintained a continuous educational process. The press service also noted that distance learning is being successfully carried out on the basis of the University without Borders platform, developed before the coronavirus pandemic.
