RUSSIAN AUTHORS’ SOCIETY FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST MTV

Russian Authors' Society (RAS) applied to the Moscow Arbitration Court with claims against MTV Networks Entertainment Vostok LLC and MTV Networks Nick Vostok LLC. The reason for the litigation was the lack of royalties for the use of content.

The lawsuits include amounts of 4.3 and 3.7 million rubles. The essence of the claims is that the MTV channel broadcasted compositions from the RAS repertoire in 2019-2020. An interesting fact here is that RAS never filed any claims against foreign music channels before.

To use the songs of RAS, it was necessary to conclude a license agreement - MTV did not do this, which means that we are talking about the illegal use of intellectual property.

The information about compositions, used by the channel, was not disclosed.

According to Kommersant, the Russian office of ViacomCBS, which manages the channel, is already preparing legal objections. It is also worth noting that previously, RAS sued only operators – the foreign companies in such cases shifted responsibilities to their licensees.
