REVENUE OFFICERS ARE DRIVING THE LARGEST MANUFACTURER OF MATRYOSHKA DOLL TO BANKRUPTCY
The factory operating in Kirov since the 1930s and producing the famous Vyatskaya Matryoshka may file for bankruptcy. The initiator of the appeal to the court was the regional tax service because of the debt to the state of almost 2.5 million rubles. It is known that the company is currently the general distributor of the products of Souvenir CJSC. It has been led by Harry Collinson for the past six months.
2019 was a loss-making year for the company. Despite the shortage of 24 million rubles, the company still paid 305 thousand in taxes and mandatory payments to the treasury. Experts note that the enterprise was considered the largest among the companies producing Matryoshka dolls in Russia.
The company employed more than one and a half hundred people.
Experts note that the organization's souvenir products became widely known among foreigners after in 1958 the workers' artel Svoboda, from which the souvenir factory was later born, took part in an international exhibition in Brussels. The company initially operated in the town of Nolinsk, Vyatka province, producing other wood products, including toys and household utensils.
Gradually, 4 or 5-piece nesting dolls were replaced by more complex ones, including oil painting using genre scenes. The factory of Vyatka (the former name of the city of Kirov) began to produce exclusive products based on special customer sketches.
As a result, the northernmost Russian nesting doll gradually became a cultural heritage.
Judging by the materials of the file of arbitration cases, recently the factory has been repeatedly prosecuted for debts to utilities. According to the company's website, it employs 133 people, and the majority of employees are women. In addition to blue-eyed nesting dolls with scarlet aprons, which are often inlaid with straws, the company also produces other souvenir products (vases, salt shakers).
