REPRESENTATIVE OF X5 RETAIL GROUP IS SUING THE LEADER OF CHIZH & CO BAND

The Commercial Court received a lawsuit of "Sweet life N.N." LLC against Sergey Nikolaevich Chigrakov, known as the leader of "Chizh & Co" rock band. It is known that the plaintiff is connected with one of the largest Russian retailers.

The Chizhik discount store chain, the opening of which has been recently announced by X5, is at a center of scandal. The fact is that Chizh & Co band owns a trademark, which heightened the retailer’s interest. And since it has not been used for more than three years, this gives the company the right to apply to the court for its cancellation and further use.

The company tried to negotiate with the musicians, but the negotiations were unsuccessful.

It is worth noting that marketer Anton Vuyma told Ren TV that the claim of X5 was a PR stunt. He noted that they are likely to lose an action because of the difference in the spelling of "Chizhik" and the trademark of Sergei Chigrakov. Vuyma added that all this looked like a PR stunt of "Chizhik", since so far no one heard about it, but now all the media will start writing about it themselves because of the loud trial. The expert also pointed out that it looked like the attempts to save the budget - advertising on federal channels will cost about 50 million rubles, but the trial, even with the possible buyout of the brand from Chigrakov, is much cheaper.

We should recall that X5 announced the opening of Chizhik stores at the end of October. It was stated that these will be discounters with prices below average, and most of the goods on the shelves will receive a mark of their own production.
