PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OF SAINT PETERSBURG DEMANDS TO BAN ANIME WEBSITES

In a week, Kolpinsky District Court of St. Petersburg will consider a lawsuit at the request of the prosecutor's office to ban a number of websites that allow viewing Japanese anime.  In particular, the infamous Death Note may be banned.

The claim was filed with the court in mid-December last year and a hearing was scheduled for January 20.

According to the prosecutor, it is necessary to restrict access to three websites at once, as they contain materials that turn the children’s brains.

The Death Note anime tells the story of a Japanese schoolboy who found a notebook that can lead to the death of a person whose name is written in it.  Thus, the main character begins to exterminate the criminals he hears about on TV, and the police, in turn, begin to look for their killer.

The anime is based on comics that were released in the early 2000s and had a great success.

At the same time, prosecutors of St. Petersburg have already announced five similar lawsuits, demanding that the anime websites should be banned.  If all the requirements are satisfied, the court may close access to 49 links at once.
