NAFTOGAZ DEMANDS TO RECOVER $5 BILLION FROM RUSSIA
Naftogaz Ukraine has filed a petition to the District Court of the District of Columbia of the USA demanding to recover $5 billion from Russia. The company believes that it will be able to recover the amount from the assets of the Russian Federation in other states.
Five other companies of the group also joined the lawsuit.
"Since Russia has not voluntarily paid Naftogaz the funds provided for by the arbitration decision, we intend to use all available mechanisms to recover these funds," Kommersant quotes the position of Alexey Chernyshev, the head of Naftogaz.
According to the company, interest will be accrued on the claim until the Russian Federation pays the required amount. At the same time, according to Naftogaz, in accordance with the New York Convention of 1958, "it is possible to begin the process of recognition and admission to enforcement of the decision on the territory of those states where Russia's assets are located."
