LICHTENSTEIN DEMANDED THE CZECH REPUBLIC TO RETURN THE TERRITORIES

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) will have to consider the claim of Liechtenstein to return the lands confiscated from the country during the Second World War.

The confiscation took place in connection with the publication of the Benes decrees made by the Czech Republic, according to which the territory of over 2 thousand square kilometers was transferred to the country. These lands will become the subject of a dispute in the international court.

The territory includes the objects from the UNESCO World Heritage List.

An interesting fact is the fact that the contested territory is more than ten times bigger than the territory of Liechtenstein itself. According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Principality, the actions of the Czech Republic were illegal, and the issue remains open until now. The official also noted the unacceptability of the confiscation of the territory without any compensation for it.

The head of the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs also commented on the situation, referring to the fact that, in his opinion, the European Court of Human Rights was not authorized to consider such applications, since the judicial body was founded after the events took place.
