LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS INITIATED A CRIMINAL CASE ON MOSCOW COVID PATIENTS’ DATA LEAKAGE
Moscow police are investigating a case of leakage of personal data of city residents. A criminal case has already been initiated under Part 1 under Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum punishment for such a crime includes imprisonment for up to 4 years and a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles.
The deputy of the State Duma Alexander Khinshtein announced this in his Telegram channel. He also assured that the police were looking for the guilty and expressed the hope that they would be found.
At the end of last year, it became known about the leakage of data from residents of the capital who had had coronavirus. According to some reports, the human factor was to blame.
Access was opened to the personal information of about 300 thousand people, including not only standard passport data, phone numbers and SNILS, but also some information that is a medical secret.
Soon after the incident, Khinshtein applied to the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications, as well as to the mayor of the city. The documents sent to the officials contained a request to bring the perpetrators to justice. The deputy also raised the issue of responsibility for the disclosure of personal data and the need to improve legislation.
