JOURNALISTS WILL FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE PRESIDENT OF BRAZIL
It became known that the Brazilian Press Association would go into litigation with the president of the country, Jair Bolsonaru. According to the potential plaintiffs, he put the lives of journalists at risk by convening a press conference to announce his positive test for coronavirus.
The head of the press association, Paulo Jeronimo, is confident that the president should be punished for violation of the mandatory isolation regime and, moreover, for inviting journalists.
Jeronimo stated that Bolsonar’s actions were criminal, he endangered the lives of other people, although he knew that he was sick.
The press association accuses the president of a criminal offense under the article "the spread of infectious diseases" - it provides for up to 4 years imprisonment and fines.
The press conference of the President of Brazil took place on July 7 - he gathered journalists at his residence and told them that his test for coronavirus was positive. Bolsonaru himself wore face mask, but the conference participants sat pretty close, holding microphones next to the president.
“It is unacceptable that these actions go unnoticed,” noted the representatives of the press association.
It is worth noting that the President of Brazil is an active opponent of quarantine measures. He defiantly did not maintain the distance and safety measures, appeared in public without a mask. Moreover, Brazil ranks second in the world in the number of patients with coronavirus and dead after the United States.
