INDEPENDENT OIL AND GAS COMPANY DEMANDS 500 MILLION RUBLES FROM RBC
The Moscow Arbitration Court has begun considering the claim of the Independent Oil and Gas Company against the RBC media outlet. The plaintiff demands 500 million rubles for reputational damage.

The Independent Oil and Gas Company is controlled by Rosneft - the plaintiff states that according to the material of RBC, Rosneft will sell stakes in six projects and buy Payakha oil-field from Khudainatov. The material was published on December 2, 2020 and it brings serious non-material damage to the company. Why the amount of compensation is exactly 500 million rubles is not reported.

RBC believes that the information published is reliable and correct.

The Independent Oil and Gas Company itself is not mentioned in the text of publication. The article tells about Rosneft's plans to acquire the Payakha oil-field in the Taimyr Peninsula from Khudainatov's Neftegazholding. The material also informs about Rosneft's intentions to sell stakes in 6 projects.

According to RBC, the material was prepared on the basis of statements made by the top managers of Rosneft, comments from the press service and information from sources close to the upcoming deal. The media reports that the plaintiffs were not satisfied with the phrase that with the purchase of all shares in six assets, Neftegazholding would increase production more than 10 times.

What is more, the negative effect was caused by a comment that was made on the low sale price of the assets - $ 1-2 per barrel.

The plaintiff believes that in this context, an unfavorable image of the Independent Oil and Gas Company is created, since it turns out that the promising Payakha field is being sold in exchange for an unprofitable depleted oil-field with a low price per barrel of oil.
