GERMAN ACTIVISTS FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST CONSTRUCTION OF NORD STREAM 2
The German organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), known for its environmental activities, has filed a lawsuit against the construction of Nord Stream 2. The applicants explain this step by the presence of harm to the environment.

The claim was filed with the administrative court of the city of Hamburg. DUH believes that due to the accelerated construction of the pipeline, it falls at a particularly sensitive nesting period for birds. Eco-activists ask to stop construction work.

In January, DUH already opposed the permission to build Nord Stream 2 in German waters. But on April 1, their protest was rejected - now the organization applied to court.

Activists believe that there is no urgent need for the construction of pipeline, but the environmental damage can be extremely serious.

The representatives of DUH noted that the construction permit ignored the problems of the impact on the climate, porpoises and seabirds.

We should recall that during the realization of Nord Stream 2 project, two pipelines are to be laid through which about 55 billion cubic meters of gas can be annually supplied from Russia to Germany via the Baltic Sea. The project is resonant and affects the interests of the United States, since the country intends to promote its own gas to Europe. Nord Stream 2 has come under the US sanctions, but the pipeline continues to be laid.
