FEDERAL ANTI-MONOPOLY SERVICE WILL CHECK YANDEX OVER THE USE OF ANTI-COMPETITIVE PRACTICES
FEDERAL ANTI-MONOPOLY SERVICE WILL CHECK YANDEX OVER THE USE OF ANTI-COMPETITIVE PRACTICES
The Federal Antimonopoly Service undertook a detailed check of potentially "anticompetitive practices" that could presumably promote the services of Yandex. We are talking about a special search engine widget that supposedly "takes" the user to the company's own services, thereby providing a competitive advantage.
Last summer, many well-known services, including Avito, CIAN and Profi.ru reported the problem.
The companies complained to the FAS about Yandex's use of methods that give priority to the search engine's own products.
Then the FAS obliged the search engine to stop this practice.
In March of this year, a demand appeared from twenty Russian companies, which reminded of the need to comply with the regulator's decision. Then Yandex asked to postpone the date, citing the fact that such a measure would take more time than it was given.
At the same time, the official representative of the company expressed disagreement with the accusations of restricting competition, reports TJ.
In his opinion, enriched search responses are a worldwide practice, and all search engines apply similar principles.
It was noted that the FAS intends to check the presence of so-called "anti-competitive practices", as well as assess the consequences to which they could lead. In the event that violations are nevertheless identified, Yandex may receive a turnover fine on the amount of its own proceeds.
