The verdict in the case of Alevtina Romanova caused a negative reaction among a significant part of the representatives of the Russian real estate market. The professional community continues to consider her innocent. However, the judge limited himself to only a slight (for six months) reduction of the sentence for the convict.
The construction holding "Kamskaya Dolina" was once the largest developer of the Perm Region. Romanova served as deputy CEO of the parent company, established in 1992.
After 2016, the company for the first time discovered serious holes in the budget, which resulted in insolvency applications filed with the arbitration court. As a result, by May 2018, Kamskaya Dolina received the status of bankrupt.
Romanova was accused of major fraud.
The investigation believes that from her actions in the period from 2017 to 2018, several persons suffered at once for a total amount of 12 million rubles. The indictment referred to shares in apartments in the HBC "Tit", which the top manager implemented through an affiliated structure.
The person involved in the case did not admit guilt. Her lawyer, like many representatives of the professional community, believes that the accused was trying to save the company from financial collapse in this way. The case should be about a possible mistake or some kind of omission on the part of Romanova, and not about criminal intent.
According to Andrey Likefet, representing the Russian Guild of Realtors, much in the criminal case looks incomprehensible. A developer with large sales volumes unexpectedly found himself involved in a civil conflict due to a not very significant amount. Moreover, the culprit turns out to be a top manager with an unblemished professional reputation who tried to solve the problem through contractual relations.
According to Romanova's lawyer, the problems of the Kamskaya Dolina holding should not be blamed on the head of the company, but on Sberbank.
The credit institution unfairly began to initiate the bankruptcy of the developer at a time when the construction market was experiencing a period of turbulence, and the developer was building a dozen residential facilities at once.
Currently, according to sources, the verdict of the court is planned to appeal in cassation. Romanova was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison. At the same time, the professional community managed to collect the amount of money necessary to settle with shareholders who had financial claims to the developer for 4 million rubles. There are almost no material claims left in the case.
