CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED AGAINST RUSSIAN POST FOR DELAYED DELIVERY OF PARCELS
The Simonovsky District Court of Moscow will consider a class action lawsuit from 20 citizens accusing the Russian Post of violating the delivery time of parcels to international destinations. The applicants demand 1.3 million rubles for a penalty, as well as 50% of the penalty (a fine under the Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights) and 200 thousand rubles for non-pecuniary damage.
The plaintiffs reported 33 days of delay in services from the Russian Post, and therefore require a penalty - they are supposed to return the full cost. As a rule, the penalty is calculated as 3% of the price of shipping the goods for each day of delay, but not more than the full cost.
The plaintiffs joined to improve their chances in court. They also urge other victims to join.
According to Kommersant, there are collectors among the plaintiffs, as well as those who sent parcels to their friends in the United States, the European Union, Japan and other countries.
The Russian Post explained the situation by problems with air travel due to the pandemic. In addition, the organization noted that the deadlines for shipment are set only for Russia, there are no international ones.
