AUSTRIA IS SUED FOR THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS

According to VSV private consumer protection association, four lawsuits have so far been filed with the court due to the spread of coronavirus infection in the Austrian ski resort of Ischgl in Tyrol.

In each of the cases, the Austrian government acts as the defendant, as according to the plaintiffs, it allowed a delay in the quarantine announcement, which in turn led to the massive spread of COVID-19 in other countries.

The representatives of the Association believe that quarantine measures could have been taken in February, citing as an example of the situation with the closure of one of the hotels in Innsbruck (the capital of Tyrol), where an employee was tested positive for coronavirus. Then, after the incident, the hotel announced its closure on February 25.

The first case of COVID-19 infection officially recognized by the authorities was dated March 7, and quarantine measures were introduced only on March 13.

Until that moment, the tourist flow had no restrictions, and travelers were infected with a dangerous virus and distributed it to their cities.

At the moment, representatives of VSV have declared their consent to participate in a class action lawsuit which is about to be filed by over 6,000 people - the filing of the claim itself is expected to take place next year. Potential plaintiffs are mainly citizens of the United States, Germany, Great Britain and Austria.

In connection with the mass scale of discontent, the Association made a written statement to the federal chancellor of the country, offering him to agree for a pre-trial settlement agreement. At the moment, the total amount of claims has reached 100,000 euro.
