A LAWSUIT FOR SEWAGE POLLUTION WAS FILED IN KARELIA

The scandal with the pollution of the coastal area of the water storage reservoir with wastes from the trout farm in Karelia ended in a lawsuit. The authorities of the republic have filed a lawsuit demanding to ban the activities of the local trout farm, which damages the water protection zone.

The situation got off the ground thanks to the public outcry and vigorous activity of local residents. People began to complain about the facts of environmental pollution in the Segezhsky district on social networks. After the incident was covered by the media, it finally attracted the attention of the authorities.

During the inspection carried out by the employees of the Ministry of Natural Resources, it turned out that one of the trout farms actually throws out its untreated wastewater after fish processing near its production site.

Experts found a violation of both forestry and environmental legislation.

The inspection revealed unauthorized occupation of a forest area and damage to trees. The perpetrators set up a pipe in the forest through which they threw out sewage that ran off into the water reservoir.

A fine was imposed to the company, but this did not improve the situation - the employees of the Segezha forestry, along with the police, recorded wastewater emissions.

The fish farm was required by law to collect the wastewater and then hand it over to a company specialized in pumping and disposal of wastewater. Instead, the enterprise simply dumped them, polluting the environment.
