A LAWSUIT FOR ILLEGAL DATA COLLECTION WAS FILED AGAINST INSTAGRAM

A class action lawsuit for the illegal collection and storage of biometric data from photos of the users was filed against the owner of the Instagram and Facebook social networks. It is assumed that 100 million people became the "victims" of the companies.

The plaintiffs are confident that Instagram stores the "face templates", which are recognized by means of an identification system, in the application's database. It is noted that Instagram automatically scans faces, even if they are depicted in the profiles of other users.

Such actions violate the law on the collection of biometric data without the consent of users.

For each incident, the company might pay $ 1,000-5,000, and given the scale of the situation, Instagram might be fined for $ 500 billion.

Facebook representatives have already reacted to the lawsuit, claiming that Instagram does not use the facial recognition technology. However, Facebook has already paid $ 550 million for data collection - the Illinois plaintiffs were able to prove that the company stored biometric information, for example, about the color of the eyes of users.
