TRUST FILED A BANKRUPTCY LAWSUIT AGAINST FORMER PRESIDENT OF OTKRITIE AGANBEGYAN
Trust Bank has filed for bankruptcy with the former president of FC Otkritie Bank Ruben Aganbegyan. Now the financier works for the infrastructure company "Natsproektstroy".

Aganbegyan served as president of Otkritie before the bank was reorganized and the credit institution was withdrawn from its former owners. Subsequently, the Central Bank filed a lawsuit against the former owners of Otkritie in the amount of 289.5 billion rubles. In 2020, the court satisfied the requirements of the regulator, and higher authorities left this decision unchanged. The former president of Otkritie was one of the defendants in this dispute. In 2022, Otkritie Bank and Aganbegyan concluded a settlement agreement on these claims, the terms of which remained secret.

However, according to the Trust, Aganbegyan is currently not fulfilling the terms of the settlement agreement. Trust became the legal successor of Otkritie in the dispute, RBC clarifies.

The bank stated that under the terms of the settlement agreement, the ex-president of Otkritie undertook to repay the debt to the bank partly by selling his property and partially repay the debt from his regular income. According to the information of the Trust, Aganbegyan holds one of the senior positions in the construction holding of the Natsproektstroy Group of Companies. In 2023, an audit was conducted on the fair execution of the settlement agreement, according to the results of which it was revealed that Aganbegyan hid a number of real estate objects owned by him. In particular, apartments in New York and accounts in foreign banks.

The Trust appealed to Aganbegyan with a demand to explain the existence of hidden assets and repay its obligations by selling them. However, the financier ignored the requests.

The ex-president of Otkritie also acts as a defendant in the case of bringing to subsidiary liability for the debts of Otkritie Holding JSC in the amount of 916 billion rubles, the Trust noted. By order of the court, part of Aganbegyan's property was seized. The interim measures concerned 13 land plots and the defendant's house in the Moscow region, as well as an apartment in Moscow and the real estate of Aganbegyan's wife.

According to the representative of the Trust, the number of court cases involving the financier provides prerequisites for the competent authorities to conduct an audit against Aganbegyan.
