THE STATE DUMA OF RUSSIA ADOPTED A LAW ON THE REMOTE VOTING IN ELECTIONS

The day before the State Duma of the Russian Federation has adopted a draft law that allows citizens to vote remotely in referenda and the elections of all the levels of government in the second reading.

To express a will, you only need a computer or smartphone, as well as the access to the Internet. The amendment provides for the possibility of electronic voting, but also has an alternative – a postal service.

The initiative of the innovation belongs to the “United Russia” party, which proposed introducing of the remote voting for both federal and regional authorities, as well as for the referenda voting. Now the Central Election Commission needs to determine the procedure for conducting a new type of voting, as well as a list of cases when it might be implemented.

It is interesting that in the regions of Russia, the citizens can vote by mail. To do this, a specific regulatory act should be adopted in a specific region.

The issue of remote voting at the country level has not been legally resolved yet. However, taking into account the text of the amendments, approved by the lower house of Parliament, it can be concluded that the remote electronic voting is a vote that does not use a paper ballot; instead of it, the tool is the special software.

The information of the safety and validity of the new type of voting is not provided yet.
