THE LAST STORE OF THE GLOBUS GOURMET CHAIN HAS CLOSED IN MOSCOW
The history of one of the oldest premium networks has come to an end in the capital. Globus Gourmet, located in the Gimenei shopping center, was the first outlet of the chain, which had been operating for 20 years. The history of the brand, which was once a symbol of gastronomic taste, has come to an end. The company's website is no longer functioning, and the management structure has been declared insolvent.

In the summer of 2025, the chain's stores in Sheremetyevo and Krasnogorsk were closed. This is how one of the first grocery boutique chains that emerged in the early 2000s finally disappeared, when the format of "new-level gastronomies" was just emerging in the Moscow market.

The project was created by businessman Lev Khasis and restaurateur Arkady Novikov. The first store has an area of 750 sq. m. The meter was estimated at $2.5 million. The average check in 2005 was about 1,000 rubles, with an average salary of 18,000 for Moscow residents.. The range included delicacies from all over the world, from French cheeses to farm products from the Moscow region.

In the early years, the network was perceived as a status symbol. The interiors were thought out to the smallest detail, the staff were trained according to restaurant standards, and the showcases were decorated with design elements. Globus Gourmet became not just a supermarket, but a place where people went "on an excursion."

However, the project has been losing momentum over the years. It was too expensive to open new outlets, and the owners were engaged in other businesses. After 2014, with the imposition of sanctions and the fall of the ruble, the premium segment suffered particularly badly: imports disappeared, and purchasing power decreased. Despite attempts to launch new formats like Smartory and Globus Gourmet Express, the network has not been able to regain its former success.

The situation was aggravated by mistakes in management and location selection. Stores were opened in not very passable places where expensive projects could not pay off. Competitors in the person of ABC of Taste actively expanded their field of activity, launching their own kitchens and a delivery service. At the same time, Globus Gourmet remained without strategic plans and adaptation to new realities.

Since 2020, a frequent change of ownership has begun. At first, the shares were transferred to management, then the restaurateurs Novikov and Pinsky bought the project, later the Sindika group, and even later the structures associated with the Rota Group. In 2023, a pipe with boiling water broke in the Vremena Goda shopping center. As a result of the tragedy, 4 hypermarket employees were killed. The business has completely lost its stability.

By 2025, the network had virtually ceased to exist. The revenue of Globus Gourmet has decreased almost eight times in eight years – from 4 billion rubles to 500 million rubles. The last legal step was the bankruptcy procedure of the management company.

Experts agree that the closure of the chain symbolizes the end of an era in Russian retail. The format of grocery boutiques has lost its relevance: modern consumers have become more pragmatic, and competition has become tougher. The premium segment has now been occupied by large chains and renovated urban markets, where customers can find both fresh food and gastronomic comfort. The history of the brand, which once set quality standards and became the first symbol of luxury consumption in Russia, has come to an end.
