The number of people wishing to declare insolvency increased by 30% compared to 2019. Moreover, 80% of new debtors are ordinary citizens.

In total, over 190 thousand bankruptcy petitions were filed with the court in 2020. In 2019, their number was less than 150 thousand.

The most popular bankruptcy procedure in 2020 turned out to be bankruptcy of individuals - they make up 80% of the total mass of applications. We should recall that from September 1, 2020, Russians also have the opportunity to officially request a cancellation of debts in the total amount of 50 to 500 thousand rubles out of court free of charge through the MFCs.

It is interesting that the most popular of all legal procedures in the bankruptcy process is the sale of property. In 2020, the courts ordered it to be carried out more than 118 thousand times (for comparison, in 2019 it was used about 69 thousand times).

The least popular were the procedures for financial rehabilitation (appointed 18 times) and external management (191 times).

In total, by the beginning of the new billing period in 2021, 207 315 unfinished bankruptcy cases remained in Russian courts.
