In St. Petersburg, the arbitration brought to justice the ex-head of the Board of the IBSP Sergey Bazhanov, who previously held the post of representative of the Ulyanovsk region in the Federation Council. Together with him, his spouse, who worked as the head of the board of directors, will also answer vicariously.

A few years ago, the banker was arrested in absentia. The basis was his actions, which brought the International Bank of St. Petersburg to ruin. Despite the fact that Bazhanov was put on the wanted list through Interpol, he is still outside the country.

Recall that the regulator deprived the credit institution of a license to conduct financial transactions in October 2018. The reason was the transactions made by the bank to the detriment of its own well-being. The organization has significant distressed assets.

On the eve of the revocation of the banking permit, the DIA found that the credit institution performs business operations aimed at withdrawing financial assets. The solvency assessment conducted in 2019 showed a "hole" in the bank's budget in the amount of more than 13 billion rubles.

The Triumph firm, the beneficiary of which was Sergey Bazhanov, tried to challenge the regulator's decision to revoke the MBSP license. The firm owned 7% of the bank's shares. The case has reached the Supreme Court. However, in the end, Themis sided with the Central Bank.

After the bank went into bankruptcy, several criminal proceedings were initiated against Bazhanov at once. He was suspected of falsifying financial statements and major fraud. However, the banker managed to escape abroad and was charged in absentia.

The bankrupt bank, according to data at the beginning of March 2023, has almost 2 thousand creditors. Debts amount to about 22 billion rubles, writes Kommersant. Of these, only 7 billion were able to meet the requirements. Possible subsidiary liability to the Bazhanov spouses may amount to about 14.9 billion.

The other day, the lawyer of the escaped banker Alexander Meleshko informed the journalists of the Kommersant newspaper in St. Petersburg that Interpol does not trust the Russian investigation. In this regard, the requests of the Russian authorities for the extradition of Bazhanov are currently virtually ignored.
