THE EX-HEAD OF THE KOMI REPUBLIC, CONVICTED OF CORRUPTION, BECAME BANKRUPT
The former head of the Komi Republic Vyacheslav Gaizer, who received an 11-year sentence for corruption, was declared insolvent. The decision on this was made by the arbitration court on the claim of the organization to which the ex-head owed 64 million. Now the property of Gaiser, who continues to serve his term in a high-security colony in the Tver region, is waiting for the implementation procedure.

The former governor was detained and then arrested in the fall of 2015, Interfax reports. Sanctions against the ex-head were applied a week after the elections to the Republican legislative assembly were held in Komi. In the criminal case against the official, 15 more people were charged with various crimes (in particular, fraud and taking a bribe).

The investigation sought to prove that Gaiser, along with other defendants, organized a criminal community. However, according to this composition of the crime, the participants in the corruption scandal were acquitted. The court gave them the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves. One of Gaiser's accusations of taking a bribe has also not been officially confirmed.

Despite this, the Zamoskvorechye court in the summer of 2019 passed a verdict in the case of the former governor of the region. He received an 11-year sentence in a penal colony. Also, the ex-head was fined 160 million. An attempt to appeal the verdict of the court was unsuccessful. In mid-2021, the cassation upheld the verdict.

According to the materials of the court case, Gaiser and his accomplices have been embezzling funds for almost ten years (2005-2015). In particular, a full package of shares of the Zelenetskaya poultry farm was stolen. About 67 million were withdrawn from the funds of the republican fund for support of investment projects. The amount of bribes exceeded 198 million. The legalization of illegally acquired property brought 988.5 million to criminals. According to rough estimates, the damage caused to the budget of the Komi Republic is about 3.8 billion rubles.

The "Gaiser case" was developed in 2021 in the Syktyvkar City Court. 64 million rubles were recovered from the convicts. In 2022, a foreclosure of almost 1.45 billion was added to this amount. Later in the appeal process, the amount was reduced to 1 billion 214 million rubles.
